Why You Need To Stand For Something

If you stand for something that others believe in, then you’ll be head and shoulders above the competition, by becoming a trusted source. If you share your beliefs and values, then immediately you’ve chosen your side of the road to stick to. If you keep to the middle, you’ll eventually you’ll get run over and then forgotten about. Communicating clearly and with a sense of purpose, enables you to become understood. What is even better is that others see that you believe in what you represent and that’s what helps form relationships, by finding something in common. Successful business is [...]

The Harlem Shake (Whoopa Google Style)

I stumbled across this in the SERPs when innocently looking into the Harlem Shake meme, so I made it into another meme (and then bunged another meme in the post title for good measure!) The offending content has been removed from Wikipedia but not before Googlebot managed to crawl it and decide that this is the best way to represent this search! Who knew Googlebot was so opinionated?

Stepping it Up A Notch in Gaining Web Traffic through Chatwing Chat Widget

An effective way of gathering potential buyers for your online products is by putting advertisements all over the web. But that would be very costly and would be hard especially for low capital business owners. Other ways would include optimizing your site to be SEO friendly so it would be ranked in search engines and thus, gain more web exposure. And lastly, ensuring that you always serve your customers to the best of your ability will leave a good impression and will likely result to them becoming regular patrons. Out of the three, the last option would be the most [...]

8 Ways To Be The King (or Queen) Of Mediocrity

Why bother looking to build your position in your marketplace and be seen as the leader, when it’s far easier to be like everyone else. According to the Business Population Estimates (BPE) there were an estimated 4.8 million private sector businesses in the UK at the start of 2012, the highest estimate since 2000. Basically, there are more of us looking for customers and finding our rightful position in the commercial world. Lets put that to one side and say ‘balls’ to championing integrity and to be seen as the only solution to your audience’s problem by marketing AT people, [...]

Keyword Density is Out of Date

Many people measure the density of their keywords when writing an article in hope that they will hit some sort of magic percentage that will make the page rank for those keywords.  They use tools that analyse the text and gives them a percentage that tells them how often their keyword has been used, I have heard many different estimations on what this percentage should be ranging from 4% to 20%. The truth is that keyword density really doesn’t have a place with the arrival modern search engine technology. Smarter Search -The Knowledge Graph Search engines have evolved beyond merely [...]

Never Build Your Brand On Hope [Guest Post]

There are more ways than ever before to broadcast our messages and present our brands, but so many companies look to build their castles purely on hope alone. Take for instance, your Twitter feed. Amongst the stream of consciousness messages that form part of our daily lives, we are also bombarded with dictated messages to interrupt and gain our focus and attention. This is similar to the old way of working where you would spread your message in as many ways as possible, from outdoor advertising to press ads to radio exposure, in the blind hope that people would react [...]

What is SEO?

After frequently receiving messages via the contact form that all say something along the lines of “I want my site to be at the top of Google” I have come to the conclusion that many people misunderstand what SEO actually is.  Of course every business owner would like their sites to rank at the top of the search engines for their target keywords but SEO isn’t a magic trick to make this happen and in fact it is this desire to be at the top that has been the hook of many SEO companies marketing strategies. There are countless SEO [...]

Social Media for Beginners

There are two types of social media and only one of them actually makes you any money – but there are a lot of ‘experts’ out there teaching the other kind. The truth is that the teenager next door could show you how to use Twitter and Facebook to make friends, but if you’re building a relationship with random people by discussing the weather or your local football team, you’re merely socialising. Whilst there is an ethos that this is a way of building trust so that, if those people do ever need your services, they will come straight to [...]

Internal Linking to Improve SEO

So you’ve got your sites content, made sure that you’ve made use of your keywords in your header tags and meta tags but still you’re struggling to rank well for those keywords. At this point most people consider embarking upon some degree of backlink building. Backlinks can help improve your sites rank for your keywords but it comes with a few issues attached! Tools to Track your SERP Placement

I just wanted to make a quick post to share a few tools that can help you to track how your site is performing in the search engine results pages. You will always see your position fluctuate as the search engines refresh their databases and update their algorithms and also as your competitors tweak their content and gain links, a small fluctuation is nothing to worry about but a continual drop may indicate that you need to take a look at your sites SEO and figure out why it is not performing as well as it has been. In my [...]

What Affect Will Google Shopping Have on Small Businesses

Google is on a mission to make internet shopping a more satisfactory experience for the end user. One of the methods they are introducing to achieve this goal is with a Product Listing platform they have called Google Shopping. The initiative was only announced on 31st May 2012 so it´s very early stages right now and is being trialled in the US. But given its imminent arrival in the UK next year, web masters are asking how Google Shopping will affect small businesses online. One thing we can say for certain is that Google Shopping will challenge small businesses to [...]

SEO Is Changing So You Better Get Social

Search Engine Optimising is changing especially with the recent Panda algorithm released by Google in April 2012. As many of you know the Panda algorithm focuses on giving tighter guidelines in order to reduce the amount of unnatural links and so avoid spammy search results. The name of the game is to create natural links and to generate content that people will actually want to share. Therefore it is obvious that more focus is being put on social media and what real people are sharing on these platforms. Think of it like this; Google is looking for the most relevant [...]
